United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his concern about reports of cross-border clashes between security forces in Afghanistan and Pakistani security forces.

Guterres urged the two countries to continue to seek to resolve any differences diplomatically, calling on the parties concerned to adhere to their responsibilities under international law, including international humanitarian law, and to ensure the protection of civilians.

Guterres also praised the mediation efforts made by member states in recent months to bring viewpoints closer together and ease tensions between the two sides.

Russia

On Friday, Russia also urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to immediately stop cross-border attacks and settle their differences through diplomatic means, according to what the Russian Information Agency quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying.

Iran

Iran has offered to help “facilitate dialogue” to resolve the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan after Islamabad declared “open war” on the Taliban government and launched air strikes on Kabul following border clashes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on X, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide any necessary assistance to facilitate dialogue and enhance understanding and cooperation between the two countries”.

China

On Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed its deep concern about the escalation of tension on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as forces from the two countries clashed after the Taliban launched an attack on Pakistani military sites in response to air strikes launched by Islamabad.
